That’s a wrap: schools and early childhood services competition winners announced

Friday 25 October, 2019

Well done to all our competition entrants! We received over 90 inspiring responses addressing the importance of creating a healthy environment.

The dedication and commitment to promote good health by many schools and early childhood services across Victoria was wonderful to read. We thank and commend everyone’s great efforts and encourage continued progression in the Achievement Program.

It’s with great pleasure that we award our top 10 standout candidates with a Health Resource Prize Pack worth $500 for their responses to: ‘Creating a healthy school/service is important because…’.

Congratulations to:

Most holistic

Arena Child and Family Centre from Cardinia

Creating a healthy service is important because a healthy service equals healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy people and a healthy future.

St Joseph’s Primary School from Boronia

Creating a healthy school is important because positive mental health and wellbeing are the epitome of happy and successful lives. Along with physical health, modelling positive behaviours is imperative in ensuring our students become healthy adults.

Creating this healthy environment for our students is the number one priority so that they are learning to be healthy in many ways at school, and then mirror these behaviours in their home lives as well.  When we create a healthy school, we are teaching students the foundations they need to begin their lives in the most successful ways.

Most engaging

Torquay Kindergarten from Torquay

Creating a healthy service is important because we are setting our children up for their future. At Torquay Kindergarten, we are teaching the next generation of Australians. If we can empower the children to put their health first on their priority list, we are giving them the tools and power to have a healthy life. The Achievement Program is helping us to ensure we are doing everything in our power to put not only the children’s health first, but our own too. We lead by example in following healthy practices and make sure we are teaching the children the importance of this along the way.

Maffra Secondary College from Maffra

Creating a healthy school is important because it leads by example and encourages positive behaviours/attitude, skills and knowledge to motivate students in maintaining their health.  A healthy school can shape lifelong habits in a positive, fun and informed learning environment, which in turn will aid their physical, intellectual, social and mental development and potentially decrease risk behaviours.

Most creative

Rutherglen Kindergarten from Rutherglen

*input from the children

Creating a healthy service is important because we need to have fun, play games, make lots of friends, drink lots of water (it helps your teeth not fall out), exercise, eat good food and most of all being Happy!!!!

Barwon Valley Special Development School from Belmont

*the students came up with their ideas of why a healthy school is important.

Creating a healthy school is important because it will keep us fit, when we are healthy, we are happy, it makes us ready to learn, it makes us better learners, it makes us happy people, it will lead us to more exercise, which will lead to healthier bodies and it will lead us to more healthy eating.

Most inclusive

Honeypot Childcare Centre from Warrnambool

Creating a healthy early childhood service is important because we are working with an age group where we can instil lifelong habits. We are in a position where we can have a positive influence on lifestyle choices, habits and preferences. If we can start talking about and implementing healthy choices and habits at this age then we can set our future generations up for not only a healthier future but also enable them to recognise and make healthy choices and decisions about themselves, their lives and even their own families when they are older.

St Leonards Primary School from St Leonards

Creating a healthy school is important because some people need a safe place, some people don’t have funds for things and some people need someone to talk to.

Most thoughtful

Milestone Childcare Centre from Croydon

Creating a healthy service is important because it has a positive roll-on effect for the community and future generations. Each child, family and educator gain valuable knowledge about healthy choices and healthy living. They then share this information with others who share it with others, and it is then spread throughout our local community, our city, our state, our country and our world. In turn, people from all different walks of life become healthier and happier which gets filtered down to the next generation. Our world will be so much better off tomorrow because of what our services are doing today.

Tootgarook Primary School from Tootgarook

Creating a healthy school is important because at Tootgarook Primary School, we place wellbeing at the heart of education.  We believe that everyone has the right to learn in a healthy, supportive and safe environment.
